Jinyanggol specializes in Yeosu-style grilled eel and eel soup. Solo diners can choose the set meal, which includes one serving of grilled eel, soup, rice, and side dishes. Groups of two or more can share an iron-plate grill and order a bowl of eel soup each. The soup is not clear; it is a rich, spicy red broth. Choose regular for a first taste or large for extra eel meat.

The dining room sits on an upper floor near Millak Waterside Park, with one wall of glass. Watching the sea while the soup simmers is part of the meal here. Come after the lunch rush and a window seat is easy to find.
The owner
The name brings together the owner, Jinyang, and her wish for a welcoming neighborhood restaurant.
The restaurant takes its name from the owner, Jinyang. Inspired by the welcoming village in the Korean film Welcome to Dongmakgol, she wanted to create a place where anyone could come in and enjoy a comforting meal. That is why she chose the phrase Welcome to Jinyanggol. By putting her own name on the sign, she also promises to stand behind every meal served from the kitchen.

How to eat grilled eel
Perilla leaf, ginger, and a spoonful of soup
The eel is good straight off the plate, but everything on the table is there for a reason.
Start with a perilla leaf
Start with a fragrant perilla leaf rather than lettuce. Its herbal flavor balances the richness of the eel. One or two pieces of eel are enough for each wrap.
Add ginger and green chili
Top the eel with some of the shredded ginger served alongside it. The ginger cuts through the richness and leaves a clean finish. Add a slice of green chili from the plate if you enjoy extra heat.
Finish with the soup
Stir a generous spoonful of perilla seed powder into the eel soup, then add rice. Alternating bites of grilled eel with spoonfuls of hot soup is the Yeosu way to enjoy the meal.
If you ordered the set meal, the grill and the soup arrive together. Wrap a few pieces, then add rice to the soup to finish a full meal.
